Taiwanese dramas…
…are pretty awesome. I recently started watching them after hearing all of my friends freak out over Korean ones. Of course, I did not watch Korean ones (if you don’t know me, I absolutely think [South] Korea and anything [South] Korean is obscenely overrated and their fans need to chill the fuck out), butTaiwanese ones, mainly because I can understand most of them (subtitles are not to be trusted and I’d rather not read my shows, thank you very much). I’d watch dramas from mainland China (and my mom wants me to), but those don’t typically suit my interests (probably because of censoring and such; I like the teenage-ish shows).
Anyway, I just finished up 命中注定我爱你 (lit. fate dictates that I love you; Fated To Love You*), and it ties with 下一站,幸福 (lit. next stop, happiness; Autumn’s Concerto**) for my second favorite drama I’ve watched thus far. First spot still belongs to 恶作剧之吻 (lit. mischievous kiss; It Started With a Kiss**) and its sequel, 恶作剧2吻 (lit. mischievous second kiss; They Kiss Again**). To be honest, one of the reasons the Kiss series is my favorite is because of Zhi Shu. He is a paragon of one of the kinds of men I LOVE (smart, aloof, independent, you get the idea…). Unfortunately, he doesn’t LOOK like the type of guy I dream about, but who cares about looks? c: Joe Cheng, thank you for modeling my dream guy.
花样少年少女 (lit. a flower is like a teenage girl; Hana Kimi***) is another series I’ve watched. Its lightheartedness and humor is great, but Jiro Wang plays some amazingly annoying SOB who I cringe at every time he appears (just like in the Kiss series!). At least Wang isn’t annoying in 翻滚吧!蛋超饭 (lit. jump! egg fried rice; Rolling Love**); Michelin is a pretty cool guy. Of course, I haven’t finished Rolling Love yet, but…still, it’s a good show (and Danson Tang is as cute as ever).
Another show I haven’t finished is 千金百分百 (lit. 100% daughter; 100% Señorita*). It was good at first, but then it got really slow. I looked up an episode summary, and the future plot was just too head-numbingly stupid for me to continue (I stopped watching right before Fei Yang gets the results of the DNA test). Honestly, the show’s premise is excellent, but many parts just make me want to kill small animals. *disappointed*
So far, the only show I’ve watched and disliked is 欢迎爱光临 (lit. welcome love; That Love Comes**). Coincidentally, it is the only one my mom told me to watch (she picked one from the ones they have at Tudou.com). Ye Zi annoys me a lot. A lot. Honestly, the only reason I forced myself to finish this series was because Joe Cheng was in it (I keep associating him with Zhi Shu…).
Anyway, I can hopefully buy the first six dramas when I go to Beijing this summer! I really want to watch them when I go to UVA. ^~^

**Who the hell comes up with the English names? Most of them make absolutely no sense whatsoever IT MAKES ME SO MAD. D:
***Justified in that it is the Taiwanese version of Hanazakari no Kimitachi [h]e.
